“The Flower Communion is based on a service developed by Dr Norbert Capek, the minister of what is now the Transylvanian Unitarian Church in Prague, during the 1930s. He wanted a ritual that would encourage the idea of a church as a community, whose individual people formed a greater whole.
For our service, each of you is asked to bring a flower that will be placed with everyone else’s into a vase during the service. The choice of flower is entirely yours, and Norbert Capek emphasised that they could just be something you found growing by the road-side – please don’t feel you have to buy flowers. If you can’t bring one, there will be plenty of flowers available in the foyer for you to choose from to use during the service.”
